This chapter details how Big Data can be used and implemented in networking and computing infrastructures. Specifically, it addresses three main aspects: the timely extraction of relevant knowledge from heterogeneous, and very often unstructured large data sources, the enhancement on the performance of processing and networking (cloud) infrastructures that are the most important foundational pillars of Big Data applications or services, and novel ways to efficiently manage network infrastructures with high-level composed policies for supporting the transmission of large amounts of data with distinct requisites (video vs. non-video). A case study involving an intelligent management solution to route data traffic with diverse requirements in a wide area Internet Exchange Point is presented, discussed in the context of Big Data, and evaluated.Comment: In book Handbook of Research on Trends and Future Directions in Big Data and Web Intelligence, IGI Global, 201

Children and Parents Time Use: Empirical Evidence on Investment in Human Capital in France, Italy and Germany

We analyze a mechanism that has been disregarded in the literature on parental investment in children, as little attention has been devoted to the choices made by children themselves. We model directly time use by youngsters into activities related to the acquisition of human capital, considering not just the decision on study time, but also on socialization/networking at young age, which can enhance personal interaction skills. We provide new empirical evidence for three European countries (France, Italy and Germany) on the link between time allocation by parents and time allocation by youngsters, highlighting country-specific patterns as well as cross-country differences. We run fractional regression models and double hurdle models on multi-member household micro data on time use. Countries diverge concerning the association between parents and youngsters allocation of time to socializing and to reading and studying activities, with Italy standing out as the country where that association, in particular between youngster and mother, is strongest. Our results are consistent with different mechanisms: parental role model directly influencing children behavior, intergenerational transmission of preferences, or network effects, as individuals adapt their behavior to social patterns.study time, socializing, networking, youth, intergenerational transmission of preferences, fractional regression models, double hurdle models

From incidence to strategy: a systematic review in playing-related musculoskeletal disorders

The intense performance and repetitive movements for a long period of time contribute to the developing of musculoskeletal disorders in instrumental musicians. This study aims to identify the major musculoskeletal disorders in the practice of the musical instrument and reflect on strategies to be used in the music teaching and learning process to reduce the risk factors for future musculoskeletal disorders. A systematic review of English and non-English articles using PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus from 2015-2019. Additional studies were identified by searching abstracts presented at Medical Problems of Performing Artists (2015-2019) and Psychology of Music (2015-2019). Search terms included a combination of the keyword's musculoskeletal disorders, instrumental musicians, and music (n=187). From the systematic analysis pain, disabilities of the arm, shoulder, hand, neck, back and shoulders and temporomandibular, cervical muscle disorders and postural asymmetries are the major musculoskeletal disorders in the practice of the musical instrument. It is important to define preventive strategies to prevent and reduce the development of PRMDs in practitioners and performers.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The aim of the study is to analyse the implications of digital technologies of sound as generator element of sound art and transforming tool of teaching and learning music. The participants (n=42) development three musical creation experiences with use of different software’s. The study employed a qualitative and interpretative approach. Participant observation, field notes, photographic/audio records as well the written and musical production participants were used. The results indicate that the incorporation of digital technologies of sound in the processes of musical creation leads to the discovery and expansion of new languages and codes, construction new imaginary territories and new challenges in the processes of collaborative musical composition that undoubtedly enrich all the artistic experience and the entire teaching- learning process.O objetivo do estudo é analisar as implicações das tecnologias digitais do som enquanto elemento gerador de arte sonora e ferramenta transformadora de ensino e aprendizagem musical.

Maceira, is considered by many one of the prettiest villages in the country. Sant'Anna Dionysius noted in the "Guide of Portugal:" Maceira, a quiet village, at an altitude of 700m, surrounded by fertile land, with plenty of water for irrigation and good air. The landscape that surrounds the small peasant village breathes so intimate sweetness that even accidentally will Bernardim remember "(Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Parishes, 1997, p.278). However, a living example of the phenomenon that is desertification. Possessing a rich heritage whether natural or constructed, without forgetting all their intangible heritage by bringing together the essential conditions for a project to boost social, cultural, and educational development. Once that the discovery is part of the walk and walking is a way to discover a region, the implementation of tourist routes in this rural area, including recreational activities and environmental-education, is an added value for its dynamism, promotion and enrichment, combined with the its preservation, respect and transmission of the instilling values in the culture of this territory
